ASM-Akron Chapter Outstanding Achievement Award Recipient: Al Kay, FASM Presenter: Louis L. Cseko, Jr. P.E., Chair, ASM-Akron Chapter

Citation: For over 32 years, Al Kay has shown creative business initiatives focused on thermal spray processing; both for HVOF in the early 1980’s and Cold Spray in 1996. With foresight, ASB Industries continues to transform to a technically advanced thermal spray and cold spray service provider with advanced technologies for processing and a vast array of machine tools to meet quality requirements initiated by customers across a broad spectrum of industries. Throughout the years Al has initiated involvement in many organizations to establish long-term friendships with companies across the globe. Al has taken many volunteer leadership positions, most notably the Thermal Spray Society of ASM International along with other activates with ASM.

Since 1947 - Sixty-Five Years of Excellence! A FIVE STAR CHAPTER

ASM International is the society for materials engineers and scientists, a worldwide network dedicated to advancing industry, technology and applications of metals and materials. The Akron Chapter of ASM International was founded in 1947 as a member of the American Society for Metals. Among these early members were heat treaters, foundrymen, die makers and others from the metal processing and allied service industries of the area. Our goal was the same as that of the National Society at that time – “To further the science and technology of metal working.” The Akron ASM Chapter meets the 3rd Wednesday of the month-September through April. Traditionally, September is Heat Treaters Night and March is Thermal Spray Night. We welcome and encourage guests to attend our meetings.
