Two 7.5 Ton Hydraulic Lifting Rams were processed as an OEM specification with 400 Series Stainless Steel using the Twin Wire Electric Arc Thermal Spray Process. Two sections on each Ram were pre-ground, sprayed and finished ground achieving a ground finish of approximately 32Ra. The Electric Arc process was chosen to apply a coating over .040” thick with comparatively higher efficiency spray rates and inherent porosity of around 5% allowing hydraulic fluid to absorb into the surface increasing lubricated movement. One section shown on the picture is as-sprayed and the other side is being finish ground. ASB used our larger CNC Grinder to achieve customer specified tolerance and surface finish.
