This year, Dr. Daroonparvar presented a technical discussion on Thermal Barrier Coatings.

An Introduction to Thermal Barrier Coating systems (TBCs), current TBCs and the development of bond coats in TBCs for land based and aircraft engine applications Abstract Thermal barrier coatings (TBC) are traditionally applied to superalloys used in aero engines, gas turbine for marine applications as well as stationary gas turbines for power generation to decrease thermal loads and prevent corrosion from the exhaust gas. Recently, TBCs have also been successfully applied on the lightweight materials such as Al, Mg and Ti for relatively high temperature applications in automobile, aircraft and space industries. We will look at these current applications as well as some of the challenges these coatings pose. About Dr. Reza Daroonparvar Dr. Reza Daroonparvar was recently hired as the Senior Coating Engineer at ASB Industries, Inc. He was previously an Assistant Professor at Azad University and a postdoctoral researcher at the Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM), where he earned his doctorate in mechanical (materials) engineering. His research for his doctorate focused on nanostructured bond coats for thermal barrier coating systems (TBCs). Dr. Daroonparvar has also developed very thin and protective Al2O3 layer at the bond coat/top coat interface of thermal barrier coating systems. Dr. Daroonparvar has made significant contribution to the development of protective coatings on magnesium alloys for biomedical and industrial applications. He also serves as a recognized international reviewer for many prestigious journals such as Corrosion Science, Applied Surface Science, Surface and Coating Technology, Alloys and Compounds, etc.
